Henry Cavill has spoken out after reports that he sustained an injury during pre-production for the new Highlander reboot.
The Man of Steel and former Witcher star shared a status update on his official Instagram. It’s unclear precisely how Cavill was hurt while training for the upcoming Highlander reboot, but his recent post suggests the injury affects his left foot and ankle.
As Cavill rests his leg beside his dog—and, naturally, a tidy stack of Warhammer books—the exact cause of the injury remains unknown. Rather than detailing how it happened, the ex-Superman star used the post to share poetry. Specifically, he posted William Ernest Henley’s “Invictus” in the caption for his 28.3 million Instagram followers.Cavill will be off his feet for some time, so don’t expect any new Highlander updates soon. THR reported last week that the Chad Stahelski-directed film was slated to begin production “in the coming weeks”—a timeline now delayed, with production now anticipated to start in early 2026.
There’s still much we don’t know about how Highlander will reimagine the cult classic for modern audiences. But in June, we learned that Russell Crowe is set to reunite with his Man of Steel co-star for the project, alongside Karen Gillan, Dave Bautista, Marisa Abela, Djimon Hounsou, and Max Zhang. Stahelski has also hinted that more Highlander content could be in development.
“I’ll say it for you first, our story engages a lot of the same characters and stuff like that,” the John Wick director told Happy Sad Confused in 2023. “But we’ve also brought in elements from all the TV shows, and we’re building a prequel, a setup to The Gathering—so there’s room to expand the property.”
While Cavill recovers, you can explore how his Warhammer studies might be aiding his efforts to build the Warhammer 40,000 cinematic universe. You can also take a look at what seems to be the star’s long-lost audition for the role of 007.
