League of Legends Back Tracks on Their Unpopular Changes
Hextech Chests Are Coming Back
League of Legends (LoL) is responding to fan outcry by reintroducing Hextech Chests. On February 27, 2025, Riot Games announced this reversal in a detailed developer update on their website, accompanied by a video on their YouTube channel.LoL acknowledged that recent changes had not met fan expectations, stating, "Recently, we’ve made a number of changes that didn’t hit the mark for everyone. We’ve been listening to your feedback, and it’s clear that there are areas where we need to adjust."
The return of Hextech Chests was a direct response to fan demand. LoL explained, "It’s clear that for many of you, Hextech Chests weren’t just a way to get stuff, they were an important part of making your time in League feel rewarding. We didn’t fully grasp how much this mattered to you, and that led us to make changes that missed the mark."
Starting with patch 25.05, players will be able to earn up to 10 Hextech Chests and keys per act. Eight of these chests will be available through the free pass, with the remaining two obtainable via the Honor system.
Exalted Morderkaiser Delayed and More Fan Feedback Changes
Riot Games also announced a delay for the upcoming Exalted Mordekaiser skin, stating the need for additional time to ensure it aligns with its core fantasy. This delay extends to the entire Exalted skin line, meaning fans won't see a new skin in every Act this year as initially planned.
In response to further fan feedback, LoL will replace one of the non-Prestige skins with 25 Mythic Essence, addressing concerns about the scarcity of Mythic Essence on the paid Pass and the frequency of new champion skins.
To enhance player accessibility, LoL will reduce the Blue Essence cost for all champions by 50% starting with patch 25.05, following discussions about blue essence and champion shards.
Additionally, Riot Games has decided to revert their earlier decision to reduce the frequency of Clash events. They will now maintain a monthly schedule, with March's event featuring ARURF and April's event returning to the standard Summoner's Rift format.
Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop Returns
Responding to fan requests, LoL will bring back the Blue Essence Emporium and Your Shop. Your Shop is scheduled to return in patch 25.06, followed by the Emporium in patch 25.07.
Riot Games emphasized their commitment to continuous improvement, stating, "We know getting League to the right place isn’t about just one set of changes. It’s about continually refining and improving the game in ways that make it better. We think today’s updates are an important step, and we’ll keep tracking how these changes feel, talking with all of you about how things are landing, and making adjustments."
With these updates, Riot Games demonstrates their dedication to listening to their community and adapting the game to better suit player preferences. League of Legends remains available for free-to-play on PC. For the latest updates and information, visit our League of Legends page.
