No Nintendo console would be complete without a Zelda title, and the Nintendo Switch 2 continues this tradition, albeit in a surprising way. Today's Nintendo Direct revealed that Koei Tecmo is developing a new addition to the Hyrule Warriors series: a prequel to "Tears of the Kingdom" titled "Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment," set to launch this winter.
"Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment" expands the Hyrule Warriors universe by focusing on characters from the ancient history depicted in "Tears of the Kingdom." Players will experience the saga of Zelda, who, after traveling back in time, collaborates with the last of the Zonai tribe, including Rauru, his sister Mineru, and his wife Sonia. Together, they confront the formidable forces led by Ganondorf. This narrative delves into Zelda's actions during her time-travel adventures, offering a fresh perspective on the lore.Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 - Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment

The trailer showcased the unique abilities of these champions, highlighting Mineru piloting a mech, Zelda wielding magic, Rauru brandishing a sword-spear, and offering a sneak peek at other Sacred Stone wielders in action.
This marks the third installment in the Hyrule Warriors series, following the original "Hyrule Warriors" and "Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity," which served as a prequel to "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild." "Age of Calamity" took a creative spin on its story, earning a 9/10 from us for being "a joy to play and discover" and "a blast from start to finish." It will be fascinating to see if "Age of Imprisonment" similarly diverges from expected paths.
