Two classic GBA racing games from the F-Zero franchise are speeding onto the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack! Nintendo's announcement confirms the arrival of F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend on October 11th, 2024.
F-Zero: GP Legend and F-Zero Climax Join Switch Online
The October 11th update brings these high-octane racers to the service. F-Zero: GP Legend, initially released in Japan in 2003 and later internationally in 2004, joins the previously Japan-exclusive F-Zero Climax (2004). This marks the first time F-Zero Climax will be available outside of Japan.
The F-Zero series, a cornerstone of Nintendo's racing legacy since its 1990 debut, is renowned for its futuristic setting, breakneck speeds, and challenging gameplay. Its influence on other racing franchises, including SEGA's Daytona USA, is undeniable. The series pushed the technological boundaries of its time, consistently delivering some of the fastest racing experiences on consoles like the SNES.
Similar to Mario Kart, F-Zero features intense competition, track obstacles, and thrilling battles between racers and their unique "F-Zero machines." The series' iconic protagonist, Captain Falcon, even makes appearances in the Super Smash Bros. franchise.
F-Zero Climax's arrival ends a long wait for international fans, marking the first new F-Zero game since F-Zero 99 last year. Game designer Takaya Imamura has previously cited Mario Kart's popularity as a contributing factor to the F-Zero series' relative dormancy.
Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscribers can look forward to experiencing the thrill of F-Zero Climax and F-Zero: GP Legend, competing in Grand Prix events, story modes, and time trials.
