Jason Momoa is set to bring the iconic DC character Lobo to life in the 2026 movie Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, marking a thrilling addition to the rebooted DC Universe (DCU). Lobo, an alien interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter from the planet Czarnia, boasts superhuman strength and immortality. As the last survivor of his destroyed world, much like Superman, Lobo's origins trace back to his creation by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen in Omega Men #3 in 1983.
Having previously portrayed Aquaman in the now-defunct DC Extended Universe (DCEU), Momoa's transition to the DCU as Lobo is eagerly anticipated. The actor has expressed his excitement about the role, citing Lobo as his favorite comic book character. He shared his enthusiasm with ScreenRant, hinting at a close resemblance to the character and teasing the inclusion of Lobo's iconic motorcycle. "Well, this is the role I've always wanted to play," Momoa said. "That’s the comic I loved, so I'm really nervous about it. It’s kind of a no-brainer to play this character. It's pretty big. I don't want to give away too much, but I mean, we look pretty dead on, exactly like the character, and he’s pretty rough and gruff and… I'll say the bike’s really cool."
Despite his excitement, Momoa confirmed that Lobo's screen time in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be limited, as the film primarily focuses on Supergirl. "It’s her movie, so it's great. I just come in for a little bit," he explained.
In January, DC co-chief James Gunn unveiled the first image of Milly Alcock as Supergirl on Bluesky, confirming that production had begun on the film. Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow draws heavily from the graphic novel of the same name by Tom King, Bilquis Evely, and Ana Norgueira. The story follows an alien girl, Ruthye Marye Knoll, who seeks Supergirl's help to avenge her father's murder by the villain Krem of the Yellow Hills.
The cast includes Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem, Eve Ridley as Ruthye, David Krumholtz as Supergirl's father Zor-El, and Emily Beecham as Supergirl's mother.
Scheduled for release in June 2026, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow will be the second film in the new DCU, following James Gunn's Superman slated for this summer. The DCU's Clayface movie is set to follow in September 2026.
