Warhorse Studios confirms that their upcoming medieval RPG, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (KCD2), will launch completely DRM-free. This follows online speculation and incorrect claims suggesting the game would include digital rights management (DRM).
Warhorse Studios Clarifies Absence of DRM in KCD2
No DRM in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
Addressing fan concerns during a recent Twitch stream, Warhorse Studios PR head Tobias Stolz-Zwilling explicitly stated that KCD2 will not utilize any DRM system, including Denuvo. He attributed the misinformation to miscommunication and urged players to cease inquiries about DRM integration. Stolz-Zwilling emphasized that any information not officially released by Warhorse Studios should be considered inaccurate.
"KCD2 will not have Denuvo, or any DRM at all," Stolz-Zwilling clarified. "We never confirmed otherwise. There were discussions, some misalignment, and misinformation, but ultimately, there will be no Denuvo."
He appealed to the community to stop repeatedly asking about DRM: "Please, let's close this case. Stop asking about Denuvo under every post. Unless Warhorse makes an announcement, any information circulating is untrue."
The absence of DRM is likely welcome news to many gamers who often associate DRM, particularly Denuvo, with performance problems and negative gameplay experiences. Denuvo's anti-piracy function has been a source of contention, with some players reporting issues with its implementation.
Denuvo's product manager, Andreas Ullmann, has previously acknowledged the negative perception of the software, attributing it to misinformation and confirmation bias within the gaming community.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is set for release in February 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game continues the story of Henry, a blacksmith's apprentice, in Medieval Bohemia, following a devastating event in his village. Players who contributed at least $200 to the Kickstarter campaign will receive a free copy of the game.
