Love and Deepspace is enhancing its security measures in China with a new face verification system launching in April 2025. This might sound strict, but there's a reason behind it, and we'll also discuss what this means for players outside of China.
Why the Face Verification in China?
This isn't a random security upgrade. China already mandates real-name authentication for online games, and Love and Deepspace, rated 18+ in China, is simply complying with these regulations. The goal is to prevent underage players from accessing content inappropriate for their age group. This is part of China's broader initiative under the Minors’ Protection Law to combat gaming addiction among minors. This includes playtime restrictions (90 minutes on weekdays, three hours on weekends, etc.) and mandatory "Healthy Gaming Advice" displayed before gameplay. Facial recognition technology is already widely used in China for various security purposes, including in airports and banks.
Global Impact?
For players outside of China, this change is unlikely to affect gameplay. The face verification system is specifically implemented to adhere to Chinese regulations. Since Love and Deepspace maintains a 12+ rating in most global app stores, there are no plans to introduce similar verification systems internationally.
