Author : Ryan May 30,2025

June may seem distant for Magic: The Gathering enthusiasts eagerly awaiting the highly anticipated Final Fantasy set. However, to keep fans entertained until its release, Wizards of the Coast has teased over a dozen previously unseen cards from the collection, featuring iconic characters such as Sephiroth, Yuffie, Cecil, Garland, Chaos, and more.

The sneak peek introduces several new cards, along with art variations for existing ones. Among the highlights are the four commander cards previously revealed: Tidus, Cloud, Y'shtola, and Terra. The set also showcases powerful legendaries like Sephiroth and Cecil, alongside fresh takes on classic cards such as the new Food token art and revised designs for cards like Stilzkin, Moogle Merchant; Sin, Spira's Punishment; and Summon: Shiva. Today’s reveal also highlights innovative features of the set, including the debut of Summons—a first-of-its-kind Saga creature mechanic allowing players to summon allies during battles (check out Summon: Shiva in the gallery). Additionally, double-faced cards make their return, exemplified by Cecil’s transformation into a Dark Knight and later into a Redeemed Paladin.

The Final Fantasy set will comprise over 100 legendary creature cards, featuring 55 legendary borderless cards, illustrated by beloved artists from throughout Final Fantasy’s storied history.

Magic: The Gathering’s Final Fantasy set is designed to be fully draftable and Standard-legal, releasing alongside four preconstructed Commander decks, each inspired by Final Fantasy titles 6, 7, 10, and 14. Each deck contains 100 cards, blending exclusive Final Fantasy content with existing cards adorned with new artwork. The set launches on June 13.
