One of the most thrilling trading card crossovers in recent years is just around the corner. The much-anticipated Magic: The Gathering and Final Fantasy collaboration is set to release on June 13, 2025. The only set still readily available from major retailers is the Starter Kit, now back in stock and available for preorder at Amazon for just $19.87. For those in the UK, it's available for £15.99.

With the rest of the sets sold out and some individual cards fetching prices over $500, securing your preorder soon is advisable to avoid missing out on this highly sought-after item.

The excitement surrounding this upcoming set has been building since its initial announcement, and a new trailer has further fueled the anticipation.

In the singles market, prices are soaring, particularly for standout cards. The borderless version of Cloud, Midgar Mercenary, is currently priced at $147.23, while its Surge Foil counterpart is commanding an impressive $599, making it the most expensive card in the entire Final Fantasy set.

For those who have already preordered or are in search of rare singles, several other notable cards are worth watching in the coming weeks. Among them is the visually stunning borderless Kefka, Court Mage card, which was showcased in the new MTG teaser trailer from PAX East, featuring the iconic artwork of longtime Final Fantasy artist, Yoshitaka Amano.

TCG Player is an excellent platform for purchasing a wide array of single cards, allowing you to enhance your deck without relying solely on the luck of the draw. It's also a valuable resource for determining the value of your cards once the new set is released. If you manage to pull any Surge Foil cards from your booster pack preorders, you could find yourself with a substantial windfall. However, it's important to note that card prices are subject to fluctuation, so values may shift closer to the release date.

Other cards to watch out for when opening booster packs or considering for standalone purchase include the Cloud, Ex-Soldier Commander card, priced at $45.99. Its value is justified by its ability to equip other creatures on the field effortlessly.

The full-art version of the Yuffie Kisaragi - Yuriko, the Tiger's Shadow, is currently just under $100. This card's appeal stems from its dual role as a Commander and its rarity, accentuated by the classic late 90s Final Fantasy 7 art style.

Some of the most exclusive cards come with hefty price tags. Alongside the $599 Cloud card, the borderless version of the Traveling Chocobo card costs $169.98, while the standard version is still expensive at $114.97. The Traveling Chocobo cards even had their own teaser trailer featuring a limited edition Gold Chocobo.

While the pursuit of the rarest cards can be costly, numerous singles at TCG Player are available at more affordable prices. These include Sazh's Chocobo for $1.96, Tonberry for $2.49, the useful Summon: Shiva for $1.56, and even Gladiolus Amicitia for just 33 cents.

Moreover, TCG Player is offering preorders for select Final Fantasy booster sets, though these are priced above MSRP. There's a nine-booster Final Fantasy bundle (plus bonus cards) for $87.99 and a 30-pack Play Booster Display box for $164.99, both plus shipping, which are approximately $20-$30 above the suggested retail price. Single sealed boosters are also available for $7.99 each, plus shipping.

Magic: The Gathering - Final Fantasy Starter Kit

Price: $19.87 at Amazon

For those preordering the Starter Kit, it's important to know that each deck is preconstructed and does not include boosters for opening (so no chance of pulling a $600 card). Instead, it contains one traditional foil legendary creature, five brand-new non-foil cards debuting in Magic, and 54 cards from the main set. The kit also includes four non-foil double-sided tokens, two MTG Arena code cards (one per deck), and two deck boxes, offering substantial value for the $20 price point.

For new Magic: The Gathering players, the Arena code cards are particularly advantageous. They allow you to redeem both decks for online play, providing an opportunity to learn the game at your own pace through AI matches or competitive play.
