Marvel is set to revive a villain from the inaugural Marvel Cinematic Universe movie, Iron Man, in the upcoming Vision Quest series. According to Deadline, Faran Tahir will reprise his role as Raza Hamidmi al-Wazar, the leader of an Afghanistan-based terrorist group who held Tony Stark captive in a cave during the opening scenes of Iron Man. This marks his return to the MCU nearly two decades after his initial appearance, where he was betrayed by Obadiah Stane, played by Jeff Bridges.
Raza Hamidmi al-Wazar has not been seen since those initial 30 minutes of the 2008 film, but he will make a comeback in Vision Quest, similar to how Samuel Sterns from The Incredible Hulk is set to appear in Captain America: Brave New World. Vision Quest, which follows the events of WandaVision and stars Paul Bettany as White Vision, does not yet have a confirmed release date.

Originally portrayed as the head of a generic terrorist group, Raza's backstory was later expanded in Phase 4 of the MCU. His group was retroactively connected to the Ten Rings, a significant organization in the MCU, as mentioned in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in 2021. This connection suggests that Raza was a commander of the Ten Rings' Afghanistan faction, potentially setting the stage for a tie-in with Vision Quest.
Just as Deadpool & Wolverine delved into the more eccentric aspects of the discontinued Fox Marvel universe, Vision Quest might explore overlooked elements of the MCU. Additionally, James Spader, who played Ultron, is reportedly returning to the franchise for the first time since Avengers: Age of Ultron, though details about the series remain scarce.
