Marvel Rivals Developer Eyes Nintendo Switch 2 Release

Author : Hazel Mar 27,2025

The widely popular hero shooter Marvel Rivals is experiencing tremendous success on PS5, Xbox Series, and PC. However, its developer NetEase has been clear that it won't be coming to the Nintendo Switch, much to the disappointment of Nintendo fans. But what about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2?

We had the chance to ask Marvel Rivals producer Weicong Wu about this possibility at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas. Fortunately for Switch enthusiasts, a Switch 2 release seems to be on the table.

Wu stated, "We're already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits. And whenever we find that we could provide great performance for our game on Switch 2, we're open to that. The reason we didn't launch it on the original Switch was because it couldn't provide a great experience for our gameplay. So if the Switch 2 can achieve that goal, we're definitely open to it."

PlayThe Nintendo Switch 2 was officially announced just last month. Although specifics on its capabilities are still scarce, it's shaping up to be a more powerful iteration of the beloved Nintendo Switch. A notable feature is the potential for a mouse-like controller functionality, which could enhance the experience of playing shooters like Marvel Rivals by making it more akin to PC gaming, though details on how this will function are yet to be fully revealed.

The Nintendo Switch 2 does not have a confirmed release date yet, but a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for April 2. Meanwhile, Marvel Rivals is currently available on other platforms, and we've given it a strong 8/10 review, praising it as a game that "may be following closely in the slipstream of the hero shooters that have come before it, but by doing so Marvel Rivals has firmly placed itself in a strong position to take the crown for itself." The Human Torch and The Thing are slated to join the roster on February 21.
