Marvel Comics is set to relaunch its flagship Star Wars series in May 2025, taking fans into the thrilling post-Galactic Civil War era. This new series unfolds after the pivotal Battle of Jakku, where Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Leia Organa are on a mission to forge the New Republic and bring stability to a galaxy in flux.
Penned by Alex Segura, who previously captivated audiences with his Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku miniseries, this latest volume promises to be a compelling continuation. The series will be brought to life through the artwork of Star Wars veteran Phil Noto, known for his work on Star Wars: Poe Dameron. Noto, along with Leinil Yu, will also be responsible for the covers of the first issue.
Set approximately two years following the events of Return of the Jedi, Segura and Noto's Star Wars series dives into a time of hope and renewal. As the New Republic strives to cement its authority, Luke and his companions confront new threats from pirates, thieves, and other villains eager to exploit the power vacuum left in the wake of the Empire's fall.
“Now that we've put the period at the end of the Galactic Civil War with the Battle of Jakku, we can speed ahead into a new, uncharted era, with some new galactic threats, foes, and mysteries for our beloved heroes to grapple with, blending the familiar with the new and shocking,” Segura shared with StarWars.com. “These stories will be packed with action and the character moments Star Wars fans have come to expect, featuring twists on the galaxy and landscape we know, with an eye toward making sure people can jump in easily and with any issue. We can't wait."
Noto expressed his enthusiasm for the project, saying, “Alex is an amazing writer and has come up with some great storylines and new characters for this series and I’m thrilled for the opportunity to bring them to life on the page! It’s also been exciting to draw the classic characters in the post-Return of the Jedi era because there’s no existing film or TV versions of them. I get to create new looks for them while also having reference of the actors from the 80s to help sell the look of this timeline.”
Mark your calendars for May 7, 2025, as Star Wars #1 hits the shelves, perfectly timed with this year's Star Wars Day celebrations.
This isn't the only new comic Marvel has planned post-Return of the Jedi. In February, fans can look forward to Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, which delves into Kylo Ren's journey following the events of The Last Jedi.
