NetEase Unveils Sea of Remnants: A Swashbuckling Multiplatform Adventure

Author : Leo May 21,2025

NetEase, once criticized for prioritizing profit over fun, has seen a significant shift in public perception, thanks to successful releases like Marvel Rivals and Once Human. Now, they're stirring excitement with a teaser for their latest project, Sea of Remnants, which promises a nautical adventure with a unique twist.

Although details about Sea of Remnants are sparse, the teaser suggests a vibrant, toylike aesthetic set against the backdrop of the open sea. The game appears to embrace a swashbuckling theme reminiscent of Errol Flynn's adventures. Whether it will be turn-based, open-world, or something entirely different remains to be seen, but the trailer showcases a colorful world filled with intriguing locations for action figure-like characters to explore.

Beyond the Horizon

Given NetEase's recent ambitious projects, Sea of Remnants might aim to rival Sea of Thieves, an open-world pirate RPG that has been a successful niche for Rare. Despite other attempts like Skull & Bones, no one has managed to dethrone Sea of Thieves. However, NetEase has proven its capability to innovate and excel in established genres, as seen with Marvel Rivals challenging Overwatch.

In the competitive RPG market, NetEase will face stiff competition. Our list of the top 25 best RPGs on Android and iOS highlights just a fraction of the fantastic releases available, showcasing the challenge that lies ahead for Sea of Remnants.
