Nintendo has recently disclosed the pricing for upgrading two popular games from their original Switch versions to the enhanced Nintendo Switch 2 editions: Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree. These upgrades come with a hefty price tag, significantly higher than other game upgrades.
For comparison, upgrading The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom from the original Switch to the Switch 2 Edition costs $9.99 each. However, NintendoLife reported that the upgrades for Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree are priced at more than double that amount each.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Enhanced Edition of Breath of the Wild offers improved visuals and performance, achievements, and integrates with the new "Zelda Notes" service available through the Nintendo Switch Online app. Owners of the original Breath of the Wild on the Switch need to purchase an "upgrade pack" for $10 to enjoy these enhancements.
The Switch 2 Edition of Kirby and the Forgotten Land introduces new story content titled "Star-Crossed World." Meanwhile, Super Mario Party Jamboree’s Switch 2 Edition features a new content suite called "Jamboree TV," which utilizes the advanced capabilities of the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls, Switch 2 microphone, and the separately sold Switch 2 USB-C camera. Additionally, it boasts upgraded resolution up to 1440p in TV mode, an improved frame rate, new minigames, and enhanced online functions.
While U.S. prices are not yet listed on the American Nintendo eShop—possibly due to ongoing issues with President Trump's tariffs—the UK Nintendo eShop has the Kirby and the Forgotten Land upgrade pack priced at £16.99 / €19.99, which is more than twice the cost of upgrading Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom at £7.99 / €9.99. The same pricing applies to the Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV upgrade, suggesting a U.S. price of $19.99 for both upgrades.
The higher upgrade cost for both games may be attributed to the significantly increased retail price of their full Nintendo Switch 2 Editions. Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World and Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV are priced at $79.99 each, which is $20 more than their original Switch versions at $59.99.
Here's a breakdown of the full game prices for the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition in the U.S. for those not upgrading:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Kirby and The Forgotten Land - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Star Crossed World - $79.99
- The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $69.99
- Super Mario Party Jamboree - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV - $79.99
- The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition - $79.99
It's worth noting that the upgrade packs for Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom are available at no additional cost to subscribers of Nintendo Switch Online and Expansion Pack. Unfortunately, no such offer exists for upgrading Kirby or Super Mario Party Jamboree at the moment.
Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 opened on April 24, with the console priced at $449.99. The demand was as high as anticipated, and Nintendo has warned U.S. customers who pre-ordered via the My Nintendo Store that delivery on the release date is not guaranteed due to overwhelming demand.
