Nintendo Switch 2 Image Reveals C Button on Joy-Con

Author : Logan Apr 09,2025

Nintendo has officially confirmed that the mysterious new button on the Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Con is indeed the C button, putting an end to months of speculation. The confirmation came via the newly released Nintendo Today! app, available on both the App Store and Google Play, which features an image clearly displaying the "C" on the button.

The C button was first revealed alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year, but initial images of the new Joy-Con did not show any lettering on the button. Despite this, prior reports suggested it was the "C" button, and those reports have now been validated.

There's been a flurry of speculation about the purpose of the C button. Some believe it might be used for "casting" the Switch 2 to a TV wirelessly or for screen sharing. Others speculate it could change the Joy-Con's functionality, such as switching to a mouse mode. There are also theories that it might relate to new group or voice chat features.

Nintendo has scheduled a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, where we hope to learn more about the C button and other features. Here's what we know about the Nintendo Switch 2 so far:

  • The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch in 2025, likely not before June based on the hands-on event schedule.
  • The console is larger than the original Switch, with larger Joy-Con that can potentially be used as a mouse.
  • It features two USB-C ports, one at the top and one at the bottom, unlike the original Switch which had only one.
  • The Nintendo Switch 2 is backward compatible, capable of playing both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, as well as Switch 2 exclusive titles. However, certain Nintendo Switch games may not be fully compatible.
  • A new Mario Kart game is in development for the Nintendo Switch 2.

Meanwhile, Nintendo recently hosted a Direct focused on the original Switch, during which the Nintendo Today! app was announced. Shigeru Miyamoto, a legend in the video game industry, introduced the app as a last-minute highlight of the showcase. The app serves as a comprehensive hub for Nintendo fans, providing a daily calendar and news updates.

Miyamoto emphasized that following the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, fans can use the Nintendo Today app to stay updated on all the latest news, with new information being released daily.
