Nintendo has officially confirmed that players will be able to utilize the Switch 2 Joy-Con's innovative mouse controls directly on the Home screen. Since the unveiling of the Nintendo Switch 2, fans have been buzzing with excitement about the potential uses of the new Joy-Con's mouse functionality. Last month, we received official confirmation that the Joy-Con can switch into a "mouse mode," enabling players to glide the controllers across flat surfaces and use the analog sticks to mimic left-click and right-click actions, much like a traditional mouse. Furthermore, the system supports using two Joy-Con in mouse mode simultaneously—one in each hand—or one in standard mode and the other in mouse mode, providing versatile control options.
The latest update comes from the Nintendo Today app and was shared on X/Twitter, showcasing that the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls can be used to navigate the Home menu on the Switch 2.

According to Nintendo, "If you place the Joy-Con 2 controller on a surface with the attachment side facing down, a cursor will appear on the screen." They further explained, "To display the cursor, set the Joy-Con 2 on a table or flat surface and move it as shown. While using mouse controls, you can tilt the control stick to scroll through menus," and emphasized that these controls are available on the Home menu and in compatible software. To revert to using the thumbstick, simply move the Joy-Con 2 into a horizontal position.
While the exact number of games that will support these mouse controls remains undisclosed, Nintendo has demonstrated the technology working seamlessly with the Switch 2 editions of Mario Party Jamboree and Metroid Prime 4, as well as the wheelchair basketball game Drag x Drive.
The highly anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 is set to debut on June 5. Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 opened on April 24, with the price still set at $449.99 — and they were snapped up in a frenzy. For more detailed information, be sure to check out IGN's Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order guide.
