Your Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller will charge up to full battery in nearly half the time required by the original model.
As reported by Nintendo Life, Nintendo has released the technical specifications for the enhanced $84.99 Switch 2 Pro Controller, confirming a charging time of approximately three and a half hours when using the official Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter or a USB-C charging cable. This represents a significant reduction from the six hours needed to fully charge the first-generation Pro Controller.
Importantly, this faster charging capability does not compromise the Pro Controller's impressive 40-hour battery life—the Pro Controller 2 also delivers up to 40 hours of gameplay between charges. It also features the new C button, includes two additional GL/GR buttons on the back, and is slightly lighter and more compact than its predecessor.

If you prefer to continue using your original controller, rest assured that Nintendo has confirmed full backward compatibility with the new console system.
Nintendo officially introduced the Switch 2 during a 60-minute Nintendo Direct presentation earlier this month. Although pre-orders were initially scheduled to begin in early April across the U.S., uncertainty surrounding import tariffs led Nintendo to postpone the pre-order launch until April 24. During this delay, the company maintained the $449.99 price point for both the Switch 2 console and its games, while increasing prices for most Switch 2 accessories (the Pro Controller's price rose from $80 to $85).
