In today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Nintendo confirmed that nearly the entire Nintendo Switch library will be compatible with the new console. However, several standout titles are receiving special "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" upgrades. These enhanced versions include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and Mario Party: Jamboree.
The specific enhancements for each "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" game vary. The first title highlighted was Super Mario Party: Jamboree, which is gaining an upgrade called "Jamboree TV." This new mode introduces mouse controls, audio recognition technology, more nuanced HD Rumble, and gameplay features that utilize the new camera accessory.
Next, the presentation focused on Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom. Both games are being upgraded with enhanced resolution, smoother framerates, and HDR support. Additionally, they will integrate with a new Nintendo Switch Online app service, Zelda Notes, which provides voice-guided help for locating Shrines and Koroks. Tears of the Kingdom will also feature a QR code system for sharing player creations with friends.
Kirby and the Forgotten Land was showcased next. Its upgrade includes a new, console-exclusive story titled "Star-Crossed World," alongside visual and performance improvements for better graphics and framerates.
Two upcoming games are also receiving enhanced editions: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will support mouse controls and deliver 4K resolution at 60fps with HDR, while Pokemon Legends: Z-A will benefit from improved resolution and framerates.
All these upgraded editions will be available for purchase both physically and digitally. Furthermore, several titles—Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, Mario Party: Jamboree, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land—will have paid upgrade paths available for players who already own the original Switch versions.

The Direct also revealed that several third-party games will get Nintendo Switch 2 Editions. Notable mentions include Civilization 7, which will feature mouse support, and Street Fighter 6, which will introduce exclusive game modes for the Switch 2.
Nintendo first sparked curiosity about "Nintendo Switch 2 Edition" games last week when a webpage mentioning them appeared in a small footnote related to the newly announced Virtual Game Card system. The note clarified that such upgraded games could not be transferred via Virtual Game Card to the original Nintendo Switch.
