Obsidian Entertainment's upcoming RPG, Avowed, will achieve a frame rate of up to 60 frames per second on the Xbox Series X, according to game director Carrie Patel in an interview with MinnMax. While she didn't elaborate on specifics, the Xbox Series S version will remain capped at 30fps, as previously announced.
Whether Avowed will offer selectable performance and graphics modes—a common feature allowing players to prioritize either frame rate or visual fidelity—remains unclear. It's possible the 60fps target on Xbox Series X is the default setting.
Avowed launches on February 13th for those purchasing the premium edition ($89.99), while the standard edition ($69.99) will be available starting February 18th. This staggered release strategy, employed by several publishers recently, has already been abandoned by companies like Ubisoft.
Set within the same universe as Pillars of Eternity, Avowed is a first-person fantasy RPG emphasizing player choice and agency. Players will unravel a narrative filled with war, mystery, and intrigue, forging alliances and rivalries as they explore this vast and captivating world.
IGN's final preview of the game lauded its detailed conversations, high degree of player freedom, and overall engaging gameplay, concluding that "Avowed is just a lot of fun."
