Overwatch 2 Unveils Exclusive Events in China

Summary

  • Overwatch 2 returns to China on February 19 with rewards from Seasons 1-9.
  • Chinese players can earn Battle Pass rewards and participate in exciting in-game events.
  • Season 15 will feature skin bundles inspired by Chinese mythology, though details remain limited.

Overwatch 2 is making a triumphant return to China on February 19, coinciding with the launch of Season 15. This relaunch comes packed with enticing features, including the opportunity for players to earn rewards from Seasons 1 through 9, as well as skin bundles inspired by Chinese mythology.

The game's return was recently announced, following a successful technical test from January 8 to 15. This test allowed Chinese fans to experience the content they missed, including Overwatch: Classic and the six heroes introduced since the servers shut down in China during Season 2.

In a message on Xiaohongshu (also known as RedNote), Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller shared exciting details about the multi-week Return to China celebration. This event will feature popular in-game events and rewards from the past two years. Chinese players will have the chance to earn Battle Pass rewards from Seasons 1 and 2 before the relaunch, and from Seasons 3 through 9 via in-game events post-relaunch.

Chinese Mythology – Theme for Overwatch 2 Season 15?

Keller also teased that Season 15 will include skin bundles inspired by Chinese mythology. While it's not yet clear if these will be new or existing skins, or whether they'll be exclusive to China, they might be part of a broader Chinese mythology theme for Season 15, similar to the Norse mythology-inspired cosmetics in Season 14.

Fans won't have to wait long for more information, as Season 15 is scheduled to start on February 18, just before Overwatch 2's official relaunch in China. More details about the upcoming season are expected to be revealed in early February.

In the meantime, players can enjoy the second 6v6 test, Min 1, Max 3, from January 21 to February 4, featuring the classic 2-2-2 team composition. The Lunar New Year and Moth Meta Overwatch: Classic events are also on the calendar before Season 15. While Chinese players may miss out on these events, they can look forward to their own special celebrations upon the game's return.
