Palworld developer Pocketpair is finalizing its highly anticipated cross-play update, slated for release in late March 2025. A recent X/Twitter post confirmed this update will enable multiplayer across all platforms and introduce world transfer for Pals. While specifics remain scarce, a promotional image showcases a lively battle featuring numerous Palworld characters confronting a colossal Pal.
This news is welcome for the 32 million players who've joined Palworld since its January 2024 early access launch. Pocketpair has unveiled an extensive 2025 content roadmap for Palworld, encompassing cross-play, a concluding scenario, and additional content for this immensely popular creature-catching survival game.
Palworld's successful launch, priced at $30 on Steam and simultaneously available on Xbox and PC Game Pass, shattered sales and concurrent player records. Pocketpair CEO Takuro Mizobe revealed the game's initial success was so overwhelming that the developer struggled to manage the resulting substantial profits. Despite this, Pocketpair swiftly capitalized on Palworld's breakout success by partnering with Sony to establish Palworld Entertainment, a new venture focused on expanding the IP and launching the game on PS5.
However, a looming legal challenge from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company casts a shadow. They're seeking an injunction and damages, alleging Palworld infringes upon multiple patent rights. Pocketpair has responded by identifying the patents in question and modifying the Pal summoning mechanic within the game. The developer remains resolute, stating, "We will continue to assert our position in this case through future legal proceedings."
