Developer Pocketpair has unveiled Palworld! More Than Just Pals, an upcoming dating simulator set within its wildly popular monster-collecting universe – and despite the timing, this isn't an April Fools' prank.
The creators of 2024's breakout survival adventure announced plans to expand their universe with romantic elements on March 31st. Under normal circumstances, fans would embrace this news without hesitation. However, with April Fools' Day approaching, the gaming community remains understandably skeptical about this unexpected genre shift.
From Joke to Reality
Pocketpair emphasizes this is no joke for the doubters: Palworld! More Than Just Pals represents an actual game project. Interestingly, the concept originated from their 2024 April Fools' gag that presented the dating sim as a fictitious concept. What began as satire will now materialize as a full Steam release, though the developer hasn't specified a launch window.
A Distinctive Spin on Romance
The dating sim promises an unconventional experience where players attend Palagos Private Academy, forming bonds (and possibly more) with student versions of familiar creatures. The Steam listing introduces romanceable characters including the enigmatic Katress and bashful Chillet – both adapted from Palworld's bestiary.
"As a transfer student at the prestigious Palagos Private Academy, you'll navigate school life through friendships and potential romances with unique pals," explains Pocketpair. "Will you pursue wholesome relationships, passionate romances, or... alternative interactions with your classmates?"
While Palworld continues receiving major updates (including recent crossplay functionality and photo mode), fans now have this unexpected spin-off to anticipate. Though a Switch version remains uncertain for the main game, perhaps this quirky dating sim might eventually reach Nintendo's platform.
