Palworld's latest update, version 0.5.0, introduces a host of exciting new features, including crossplay across all platforms, enhancing the gaming experience for its massive player base of 32 million since its early access launch in January 2024. This update allows players to store Pal data in the Global Palbox and transfer Pals between worlds seamlessly. The new Dimensional Pal Storage system offers a whopping 10 times the capacity of the regular Palbox and can be used both as a guild-accessible storage and as personal storage with private settings.
In addition to the storage enhancements, players can now enjoy a cosmetic armour system that lets them change their character's appearance without affecting armour stats, known as transmog. A new photo mode allows for stunning in-game screenshots, while the drafting table enables players to upgrade low-rarity blueprints into higher-rarity ones. Dedicated servers are now available for Mac users, with plans underway for PlayStation 5 dedicated servers in the future.
Pocketpair, the developer behind Palworld, has outlined an ambitious content roadmap for 2025, promising an "ending scenario" and more new content. Launched on Steam at $30 and simultaneously on Game Pass for Xbox and PC, Palworld broke sales and concurrent player records. The game's success led to the formation of Palworld Entertainment with Sony, aimed at expanding the IP, including a planned release on PS5.
Amidst its success, Palworld faces a legal challenge from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, who allege infringement on "multiple" patent rights and seek an injunction and damages. Pocketpair has responded by adjusting how players summon Pals and is prepared to defend its position in court.
