Troubleshooting Path of Exile 2 PC Freezing Issues
Path of Exile 2, the highly anticipated sequel from Grinding Gear Games, offers a Diablo-like experience but has encountered some performance hiccups. Several players report complete system freezes requiring hard restarts, particularly during loading screens or gameplay. While an official patch is pending, here are some workarounds:
Initial Troubleshooting Steps:
- Graphics API: Experiment with switching between Vulkan and DirectX 11 at game launch.
- V-Sync: Disable V-Sync in the game's graphics settings.
- Multithreading: Deactivate multithreading in the graphics settings.
Advanced Solution (Courtesy of Steam user svzanghi):
If the above steps fail, this method allows for a less disruptive restart:
- Launch the game.
- Open Task Manager: Press Ctrl+Shift+Esc. Navigate to the "Details" tab.
- Adjust CPU Affinity: Right-click on
POE2.exe
. Select "Set Affinity." - Disable Cores: Uncheck the boxes for CPU 0 and CPU 1.
This prevents a full system crash, enabling you to force-quit Path of Exile 2 via Task Manager and relaunch without a complete PC reboot. However, this workaround requires repetition each time you start the game. Continued freezing may still necessitate a full system restart.
