PlatinumGames Celebrates Bayonetta's 15th Anniversary with a Year of Festivities!

To commemorate fifteen years since the original game's release, PlatinumGames is hosting a year-long celebration honoring the enduring legacy of Bayonetta and thanking fans for their unwavering support. The original title, launched October 29th, 2009 (Japan) and January 2010 (globally), captivated players with its innovative gameplay and stylish action, hallmarks of director Hideki Kamiya's signature style. Bayonetta, the powerful Umbra Witch, quickly became a video game icon, known for her unique combat abilities utilizing guns, martial arts, and her magically-infused hair.

The initial success of Bayonetta, published by Sega, paved the way for two subsequent sequels, both published by Nintendo as exclusive titles for the Wii U and Nintendo Switch. The prequel, Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon, further expanded the lore, introducing a younger Bayonetta. The character's enduring popularity also led to her inclusion as a playable fighter in recent Super Smash Bros. installments.

PlatinumGames' "Bayonetta 15th Anniversary Year" kicks off in 2025, promising a series of special announcements and releases. While details remain scarce, the developer encourages fans to follow their social media channels for upcoming reveals.

2025: A Year of Bayonetta Celebrations

Already underway are exciting initiatives: Wayo Records has released a limited-edition Bayonetta music box featuring the Super Mirror design and the "Theme Of Bayonetta - Mysterious Destiny" melody composed by Masami Ueda. Additionally, PlatinumGames is providing exclusive Bayonetta-themed smartphone calendar wallpapers each month; January's wallpaper showcases Bayonetta and Jeanne in kimonos under a full moon.

Even after 15 years, the original Bayonetta remains influential, refining the stylish action genre pioneered by Devil May Cry. Its innovative mechanics, such as Witch Time, have inspired numerous subsequent PlatinumGames titles, including Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Nier: Automata. Fans eagerly anticipate the upcoming announcements throughout this special anniversary year.
