Pokémon GO Adds Morpeko and More, Hints at Dynamax and Gigantamax Coming to Game
New Season Expected to Focus on Galar Pokémon
In a recent update, Niantic confirmed the arrival of new Pokémon, including the form-changing Morpeko, to Pokémon GO. This news has sparked speculation among fans that the addition of these new 'mons might signal the introduction of the Dynamax and Gigantamax mechanics, which were initially featured in Pokémon Sword and Shield. These mechanics, unique to the Galar region, enable Pokémon to dramatically increase in size and enhance their stats.
"Coming soon: Morpeko will charge into Pokémon GO, changing the way you battle! Certain Pokémon—like Morpeko—will be able to change form in battle by using a Charged Attack, unleashing new possibilities for you and your battle team." Niantic announced. They also hinted that the upcoming season will bring "big changes, big battles, and…big Pokémon."
While further details remain under wraps, it appears these "hungry" and "big" changes will roll out in September with the new season. The addition of Morpeko has led to speculation about the potential inclusion of other Pokémon like Mimikyu and Aegislash, along with more engaging mechanics. In Pokémon Sword and Shield, the Dynamax and Gigantamax mechanics were confined to specific locations known as Power Spots. It's unclear if Pokémon GO will adopt a similar approach, but with the Shared Skies season ending on September 3, the next season is expected to spotlight Galar Pokémon, heightening anticipation for these mechanics. However, these are merely speculations, and more official announcements are awaited to clarify how these changes will be integrated into the game.
