Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

The Pokémon Company has confirmed it currently has no plans to include Pokémon TCG Pocket in its competitive circuit. Let's delve into the reasons behind this decision and explore the game's future in the competitive scene.

Pokémon TCG Pocket: No Immediate Competitive Plans

Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

Chris Brown, Director of eSports at The Pokémon Company, recently stated in a VGC interview (February 25, 2025) that while they constantly evaluate potential additions to their competitive lineup, Pokémon TCG Pocket isn't currently on the schedule. He playfully mentioned Pokémon Sleep as another example of a title not currently considered for competitive play, reiterating that while they are always exploring options, there are no current plans for Pokémon TCG Pocket.

Why the Wait? Early Stages and Balancing Concerns

Pokémon TCG Pocket Has No Plans To Go Competitive

While no official reasons have been given, several factors likely contribute to this decision. Launched only four months prior (October 2024), Pokémon TCG Pocket is still in its infancy, having released only two sets. Although the app includes competitive features, ongoing balance issues are a major concern for players. Compared to the original trading card game, Pokémon TCG Pocket offers a simplified, beginner-friendly experience; high-level competition isn't a primary design goal at this stage.

The Pokémon Competitive Circuit remains robust, featuring Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite, all culminating at the Pokémon World Championships in Anaheim, California, August 2025.
