Professor Layton's Return: A New Steam-Powered Adventure Thanks to Nintendo!

The renowned Professor Layton is back with a brand new adventure, and we have Nintendo to thank! LEVEL-5, the creative minds behind the beloved puzzle-solving series, recently revealed the story behind the long-awaited sequel, Professor Layton and the New World of Steam.

A Push from "Company N"

Following a nearly decade-long hiatus, LEVEL-5 CEO Akihiro Hino shared at Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2024 that while the team considered Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy a fitting conclusion, persuasion from a significant industry player – widely believed to be Nintendo ("Company ‘N’") – prompted the development of the new game. Hino stated that the encouragement from Nintendo was a major factor in their decision to revisit the steampunk world of Professor Layton. This aligns with Nintendo's close historical ties to the franchise, having published many Layton titles and recognizing its significance in the DS and 3DS era.

Hino emphasized the desire to deliver a new title that would meet the quality expectations of modern consoles and satisfy the fanbase.

Exploring the New World of Steam

Professor Layton and the New World of Steam, set a year after Professor Layton and the Unwound Future, reunites Professor Layton and Luke Triton in the vibrant American city of Steam Bison. This new adventure involves a captivating mystery surrounding Gunman King Joe, a legendary gunslinger seemingly lost to time.

The game promises the signature challenging puzzles, enhanced this time by the collaboration with QuizKnock, renowned puzzle creators. This partnership aims to address concerns raised by the previous installment, Layton's Mystery Journey, which received mixed reception due to its altered focus.
