During IGN Fan Fest Day 2 2025, Ratatan developer Ratatan Works released an eagerly anticipated official gameplay trailer. The video provided fans with an exciting glimpse into the game's mechanics, featuring a thrilling battle against a colossal boss crab.
The trailer showcased Ratatan's unique blend of rhythm roguelike action, merging the excitement of rhythm games with dynamic side-scrolling action. A standout feature is the online co-op gameplay, which supports up to 4 players. Additionally, players can engage in massive melee battles with up to 100 characters, adding depth and variety to the gameplay experience.
Developed by Patapon creator Hiroyuki Kotani and featuring music by the original Patapon musician Kemmei Adachi, Ratatan has already made significant strides. Its Kickstarter campaign, launched in 2023, successfully reached its console launch stretch goal, ensuring a release across various gaming platforms.
Closed Beta Begins on February 27, 2025
According to the latest update on their Kickstarter page, Ratatan is set to launch its closed beta on February 27, 2025. Ratatan Producer Kazuto Sakajiri shared insights into the game's milestones and upcoming events.
Sakajiri proudly announced that Ratatan has surpassed 100,000 wishlists on Steam and garnered positive feedback for its Ratatan Original Soundtrack Demo. While the game will not participate in the upcoming Steam Next Fest, the team is fully committed to refining the demo for the June Steam Next Festival.
During the closed beta, players can expect to experience up to Stage 1 initially, with Stages 2 and 3 being added throughout the month-long test period. Sakajiri also noted that details on code distribution, start dates, and times will be shared via Discord and X as soon as they are finalized.
Ratatan is slated for release in 2025 across multiple platforms, including PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. While a specific release date has yet to be announced, the anticipation continues to build among fans eager to dive into this spiritual successor to Patapon.
