The team at Rebel Wolves, comprised of former developers from The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077, have announced their new project, The Blood of Dawnwalker. Although they are not aiming for a full AAA-scale production, their ambitions remain high. Rebel Wolves' founder, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, expressed their goal of achieving AAA quality akin to The Witcher 3, but on a more manageable scale:
“We want AAA quality, like The Witcher 3—that’s our heritage. But as a small studio on our first project, we’re creating something more compact yet just as polished.”
The Blood of Dawnwalker is expected to take 30-40 hours to complete, a significant departure from the expansive playtimes of games like The Witcher 3:
“Comparing anything to The Witcher 3, which was meant to last 100+ hours but often exceeded 200-300 hours, is crazy. But is size what makes a game AAA? Call of Duty is AAA without a massive campaign. So, does scale really matter?”
Tomaszkiewicz also questioned the relevance of industry labels such as “AAA” and “AAAA,” dismissing them as meaningless.
Set in an action RPG format, The Blood of Dawnwalker follows the journey of a half-vampire who has 30 days and 30 nights to rescue his loved ones. Despite the time limit, the game promises a seamless experience. Utilizing Unreal Engine 5, it will be available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, though an official release date has yet to be announced.
