For the first time, the legendary survival horror franchise Resident Evil is making a foray into the music scene—through a major collaboration. Capcom has officially announced a partnership with Japanese metal idol sensation BABYMETAL.
The collaboration celebrates the series' 30th anniversary in 2026.
The reveal took place during BABYMETAL's performance at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, a landmark event for another reason: the group became the first Japanese act to headline a solo concert at the prestigious venue.
The teaser video features rapid cuts of artwork, suggesting potential designs for the upcoming Resident Evil x BABYMETAL merchandise line. While Capcom has not disclosed specific items yet, the collection is confirmed for release sometime in 2026.
A dedicated website for the Resident Evil 30th Anniversary is now online, where fans can follow the latest news and updates. For now, check out the collaboration teaser video below.
Beyond this partnership, Capcom is gearing up for a significant year. February 2026 will see the launch of Resident Evil: Requiem, the ninth main series installment. Additionally, the mobile real-time strategy game Resident Evil Survival Unit is on the horizon.
Originally released as Biohazard in Japan in 1996 for the PlayStation, Resident Evil was created by Shinji Mikami and Tokuro Fujiwara. Its tense atmosphere, intricate puzzles, and terrifying encounters with zombies helped pioneer the survival horror genre.
By the time Requiem launches, the franchise will have reached 30 total game releases—perfectly aligning with its 30th anniversary. The series has also expanded into six live-action films, four animated features, an anime miniseries, a Netflix adaptation, numerous comics, and a vast array of collectibles.
