Robert Eggers, fresh off his gothic horror film Nosferatu, is set to direct a sequel to the beloved fantasy classic, Labyrinth.
According to Variety, Eggers will pen the script alongside his The Northman collaborator, Sjón. This follows a previous attempt at a sequel with director Scott Derrickson, which stalled. TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures have now opted for Eggers' vision.
The original 1986 Labyrinth, starring David Bowie as the Goblin King Jareth and Jennifer Connelly, follows a young girl's journey into a fantastical realm to rescue her kidnapped brother. She's aided by a troupe of Henson's iconic puppets.
Eggers' plate is full. He's also helming a werewolf film, Werwulf, slated for a Christmas 2026 release. Set in 13th-century England, the film will feature dialogue in Old English. A transformation into a wolf-like creature is, presumably, on the cards.
Nosferatu, Eggers' recent Christmas release, is a remake of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent film. The 19th-century German-set story centers on a real estate agent whose trip to Transylvania to broker a deal with a mysterious count unleashes vampiric horrors upon him and his wife.
Nosferatu garnered four Oscar nominations: Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup and Hairstyling. A review of Nosferatu is available here.
