Hollow Knight fans are abuzz with speculation that Hollow Knight: Silksong will be announced for the Nintendo Switch 2 during the upcoming Nintendo Direct on April 2nd. Let's delve into the reasons behind this latest wave of excitement.

The speculation frenzy began with a cryptic tweet from William Pellen, one of the game's creators, on January 15th. He teased "something big is coming. keep your eyes closed tomorrow," fueling anticipation for the leaked Switch 2 reveal on January 16th. The inevitable Silksong questions arose, but Pellen's subsequent actions only intensified the speculation.

On January 16th, following the Switch 2 announcement and the reveal of an April 2nd Direct, Pellen changed his profile picture to a slice of cake. A reverse image search revealed the image belonged to a Bon Appetit article featuring a Brooklyn Blackout Cake recipe, published on April 2nd, 2024.

Pellen also commented on the article with "mmmm tasty," prompting a flurry of fan comments connecting the cake to Silksong. One fan even vowed to bake the cake if Silksong news arrived by April 2nd, 2025, while another playfully remarked on the cake's "silky texture," linking it to the game and the upcoming Nintendo Direct.

It's crucial to note that Pellen's connection to the cake recipe comment remains unconfirmed. However, the profile picture change is undeniable, leaving fans to ponder whether it's a genuine hint or merely a coincidence.

Announced on February 14th, 2019, Hollow Knight: Silksong was initially slated for release on Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. The sequel follows Hornet's adventures in a new kingdom, promising a captivating continuation of the Hollow Knight saga.

Following a December 2019 preview of the game's soundtrack by Christopher Larkin, Team Cherry remained largely silent for over two years. They broke their silence in February 2022, reassuring fans of the game's ongoing development and promising updates closer to release. A June 2022 trailer during the Xbox and Bethesda Showcase offered new gameplay footage and confirmed the game's inclusion in Game Pass upon launch.

Despite initial expectations of a 2023 release, Team Cherry's Matthew Griffin confirmed a delay in May 2023, citing the game's expanded scope and the team's commitment to delivering a high-quality experience.

After five years of anticipation, the Hollow Knight fanbase remains fervent, actively searching for any news regarding Silksong. However, information has been scarce since the delay announcement, leaving fans clinging to any potential clues, however tenuous they may seem.
