Smite 2 is poised to launch its free-to-play open beta on January 14, 2025, marking the beginning of a new era for this third-person action MOBA. After entering its Alpha stage earlier in 2024, Smite 2 promises to introduce new game modes, Gods, Aspects, and numerous other features to attract a broader audience to this next-generation title.
As a sequel to the 2014 free-to-play MOBA Smite, Smite 2 was unveiled nearly a decade after its predecessor's debut. It aims to deliver a completely overhauled experience, leveraging the power of Unreal Engine 5. Much like the original game, Smite 2 allows players to embody legendary figures and deities drawn from various global mythologies, ranging from Greek to Japanese pantheons. Starting with 14 Gods available during its Alpha launch in September, the roster is expected to expand to nearly 50 by the end of January 2025. With more details now released, fans have much to look forward to beyond just new characters.
The developers of Smite 2 have confirmed that the game will enter its free-to-play open beta on January 14, 2025, providing players an opportunity to experience the significant differences from the original game firsthand. Alongside this announcement, Aladdin, the first God from the Tales of Arabia pantheon, will be introduced on the same day, enriching Smite 2's already diverse lineup. Aladdin serves as a Magical Assassin and Jungler, with the unique ability to run on walls and trap enemies in his lamp. Fans can also anticipate the return of familiar characters from the original Smite, including Mulan, Geb, Ullr, and Agni, although these characters will undergo modifications to their abilities.
When Does the Smite 2 F2P Open Beta Begin?
- January 14, 2025
A new 3v3 game mode called Joust has been announced for the F2P open beta. Set in an Arthurian-themed environment, players can navigate the map using Teleporters, with Stealth Grass enabling surprise attacks on opponents. The same map will also be used for Duel, a new 1v1 mode. Additionally, the innovative Aspects feature will introduce a fresh dynamic to gameplay, allowing players to exchange a specific aspect of their God's build for a potent advantage. For instance, when Aspects are activated, Athena can no longer teleport to an ally to shield them but can teleport to enemies to weaken them. During the open beta, 20 out of Smite 2's 45 dynamic Gods will include Aspects, with more planned for future updates.
Smite 2 will also introduce several quality-of-life improvements, such as Role Guides, helpful tips for new players, PC text chat, enhanced item store functionality, death recaps, and more. The first Smite 2 esports tournament finale is slated to occur at the HyperX Arena in Las Vegas from January 17-19, spotlighting this exciting new MOBA. The game will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
