On April 9, Sega took to Twitter (X) to announce that Sonic Rumble will be hitting the global market on May 8, 2025. Accompanying the announcement was a fresh trailer showcasing vibrant gameplay footage.
Sonic Rumble marks the franchise's first venture into multiplayer party gaming, allowing up to 32 players to engage in thrilling competitions across diverse levels and gameplay modes. Sega describes the game as, "Players control a character from the Sonic series as they navigate a toy world created by the villainous Dr. Eggman, tackling treacherous obstacle courses and dangerous arenas!"
Given its free-to-play model, concerns about potential pay-to-win elements have surfaced. Addressing these concerns, Sonic Rumble Director Makoto Tase, in an interview with Automaton during the Tokyo Game Show 2024, emphasized, "We’re aiming for a casual system that allows you to just buy what you want quickly for a small, fixed amount, rather than a gacha system that gives you a certain probability of obtaining items."
Sonic Rumble Reaches Over 900k Pre-Registrations
Shortly after the release date was announced, Sega disclosed that Sonic Rumble has surpassed 900,000 pre-registrations. Each pre-registration milestone achieved unlocks unique in-game rewards to enhance players' starting experience.
