Star Wars: Hunters, Zynga's innovative venture into the Star Wars franchise, will be discontinued less than a year after its debut on iOS and Android. Launched in June 2024, the game quickly captivated audiences with its unique blend of game show elements and fresh interpretations of Star Wars archetypes.
The shutdown of Star Wars: Hunters is scheduled for October 1st of this year. In the lead-up to this closure, a final content update is slated for release on April 15th. Players have been informed that they can now request refunds for any in-game currency they've purchased. Additionally, certain seasonal events will be replayed, and Season 3 will be extended to give everyone more time to enjoy the game.
Fans eagerly awaiting the introduction of the final hunter, Tuya, will be pleased to know that they'll still be able to experience her in multiplayer mode. Tuya will be part of the final content update and available to all players at no extra cost.
Story's Over
The announcement of the game's closure came as a surprise, especially given the lack of prior indications of underperformance. Given Zynga's robust standing in the industry, it's plausible that factors beyond simple game performance contributed to the decision to discontinue Star Wars: Hunters.
One theory might be that the pseudo-hero shooter genre is currently oversaturated, and the target audience, predominantly older Star Wars fans, may not have been the ideal demographic for a fast-paced mobile multiplayer game.
