Stardew Valley's creator, Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone, has pledged to provide all future updates and DLC for free. This commitment ensures continued support for the beloved farming simulator without additional cost to players.
Stardew Valley's Ongoing Commitment to Free Content
Barone's Unwavering Promise
In a recent Twitter (now X) exchange, Barone reaffirmed his dedication to providing free updates and DLC for Stardew Valley. While acknowledging the time required for ongoing port development and PC updates, he stated, "The ports and next pc update are still in progress. I know it is taking a long time, it's on my mind every minute. I have personally been working on the mobile port every day. I will announce when there is any meaningful news (e.g. a release date). Hope you're having a good summer."
Responding to a fan's comment about the importance of free additions, Barone emphatically declared, "I swear on the honor of my family name, I will never charge money for a DLC or update for as long as I live." This strong statement serves as a reassurance to the dedicated fanbase.
Stardew Valley, released in 2016, is a popular farming RPG that has consistently received significant updates. The recent 1.6.9 update introduced substantial content, including new festivals, multiple pet options, expanded home renovations, new outfits, enhanced late-game content, and various quality-of-life improvements.
Barone's commitment may extend beyond Stardew Valley, as he is also developing Haunted Chocolatier. However, details on this new project remain limited.
This dedication to his community showcases Barone's respect for his players. His statement, "Screencap this and shame me if I ever violate this oath," underscores his commitment to providing ongoing, free content for a game that continues to thrive seven years after its initial release.
