Stellar Blade, the debut non-gacha title from Shift Up in the US, has garnered praise for its challenging soulslike gameplay, stunning visuals, captivating soundtrack, and its provocative character design. In our review, Mitchell Saltzman noted that "Stellar Blade shines as a beautifully crafted action game with significant strengths and noticeable weaknesses. While its narrative and characters may lack depth, and some RPG elements like repetitive sidequests could be better, the game's combat system, inspired by Sekiro, is rock solid. It offers a plethora of fearsome enemies to battle and plenty of hidden treasures that encourage thorough exploration." IGN gave Stellar Blade a 7/10, though I personally found it to be an exceptional game deserving of a higher score. It didn't make it onto our list of the best PS5 games of 2024 due to its recent release (games need to be out for at least 6 months to qualify).

Stellar Blade is a technically demanding title, and I recommend playing it in "Performance" mode to maintain a smooth 60fps. If you're lucky enough to own a PlayStation 5 Pro, you can enjoy the game in "Enhanced" 4K mode while still achieving excellent frame rates. According to the official PlayStation blog, "With PS5 Pro, players can experience Stellar Blade in 4K at 50fps or higher, with smoother gameplay and enhanced detail through PSSR upscale mode. Additionally, the HFR option supports a fluid 80fps experience with a 120hz display."
