"Super Mario World: Sequel Title Revealed and Retracted by NBCUniversal"

Author : Sarah May 16,2025

An NBCUniversal press release may have inadvertently revealed the title of the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The press release, which was quickly edited to remove the mention, listed "Super Mario World" among upcoming films set to stream on Peacock. This has sparked speculation that "Super Mario World" could be the official title for the next installment in the Mario franchise.

The original press release grouped "Super Mario World" with "Shrek" and "Minions," which are known to refer to Shrek 5 and Minions 3, respectively. This suggests that "Super Mario World" might be a placeholder or an umbrella term rather than the final title for the Mario sequel. However, given that "Super Mario World" is more specific than a generic title like "Super Mario" or "Super Mario Bros.," it's plausible that it could indeed be the chosen name for the next film.

If "Super Mario World" is the title, it would align well with the Mario universe, potentially hinting at a storyline that explores the expansive world beyond the Mushroom Kingdom, similar to the classic Super Nintendo game of the same name.
