Ultraman's Unveiling? New Set Photos Hint at Superman Villain's Arrival

Ultraman

Recent set photos from the upcoming Superman movie appear to confirm the presence of a powerful DC villain, despite director James Gunn's previous statements. In April 2024, reports surfaced suggesting Ultraman as the main antagonist. Gunn subsequently clarified that Lex Luthor would be the primary villain, seemingly contradicting these earlier reports.

However, new images from Cleveland.com depict a masked figure with a prominent "U" symbol on their chest, strongly suggesting Ultraman's inclusion. This figure is shown apprehending Superman alongside Rick Flag Sr. and The Engineer. This contradicts Gunn's earlier assertions, leading to some fan criticism.

Defenders of Gunn point out he never explicitly denied Ultraman's presence, only specifying Lex Luthor's role as the primary antagonist. One reporter clarified that "main villain" referred to Superman's primary opponent in combat, implying a lack of confrontation with Lex Luthor.

The masked figure's "U" symbol provides compelling evidence, though official confirmation is still pending. Speculation suggests Superman's arrest might stem from crimes committed by his evil doppelganger, Ultraman, revealing a potential plot twist. Until official confirmation, the true extent of Ultraman's role remains uncertain. This situation raises questions about the reliability of Gunn's future statements regarding DCU rumors.

Superman, written and directed by James Gunn, is slated for release on July 11, 2025, marking the first film in Warner Bros.' revamped DC Universe. This new iteration features a fresh take on the Man of Steel, staying true to the character's core values.
