Umamusume: Pretty Derby is racing towards its English release, bringing the horse girls racing simulation to a global audience. Developer Cygames announced on Twitter (X) on April 27 that the game will launch on June 26, 2025, with pre-registrations starting April 28.
The game, initially released exclusively in Japan on February 24, 2021, for iOS, Android, and PC, offers a unique narrative where legendary racehorses are reborn as "horse girls" or "Umamusume." These characters, resembling high school girls but with the ears, tails, endurance, and speed of horses, train at Tokyo's Tracen Academy. Their goal is to become renowned racers and idols.
According to its Steam page description, players can "scout featured trainees and supporters as you navigate the immersive sports life simulation through the game's in-depth training system and top-of-the-line 3D graphics!" The game features a gacha system, allowing players to choose from over 20 Uma Musumes to scout and train, and compete in races and showcase stunning performances.
Mobile and handheld video games news website PocketGamer.biz reported in March 2025 that Umamusume: Pretty Derby's Japanese version amassed over $2.5 billion in mobile revenue within just four years. The game nearly reached $1 billion in its launch year of 2021. With the upcoming English version, Cygames aims to replicate this success on a global scale.
