In a surprising turn of events, an unannounced paid DLC for *Hogwarts Legacy* has been canceled, according to a recent report by Bloomberg. The canceled expansion was reportedly being developed alongside a new "Definitive Edition" of the game, both of which were expected to release this year.
Bloomberg's sources indicate that Warner Bros. had plans for a full story-driven expansion pack for the popular Harry Potter-themed action RPG. However, the project was scrapped earlier this week over internal concerns about its value proposition. Specifically, executives reportedly felt that the amount of content included in the DLC was not substantial enough to justify the proposed price point.
Warner Bros. declined to comment when contacted by Bloomberg, which is consistent with the company’s usual stance on unreleased projects. This cancellation, however, comes amid broader restructuring efforts within WB’s gaming division as it faces ongoing financial challenges. Earlier this year, the studio canceled its in-development Wonder Woman title and shut down the Monolith Productions team behind it. Additionally, WB closed studios including WB San Diego and Player First Games, the developers of *MultiVersus*. In September alone, Rocksteady Studios also underwent layoffs despite being best known for the successful *Batman: Arkham* franchise.
Despite these setbacks and cancellations, Warner Bros. continues to emphasize the importance of the *Harry Potter* brand and the success of *Hogwarts Legacy*, which has sold more than 30 million copies since launch. The studio has previously stated that a sequel to the hit RPG is among its top priorities as it shifts focus toward fewer but larger franchises.
