World of Warcraft's Festive Feast: A Lore-Filled Winter Veil
World of Warcraft's annual Feast of Winter Veil, a joyous in-game celebration mirroring Christmas, returns with fresh rewards and activities. Each year brings new collectibles, gold, and other surprises for players.
A newly released lore video, a collaboration with PlatinumWoW, delves into the rich history of this beloved holiday. The video explores its diverse origins: the Dwarven legend of Greatfather Winter, a Titan-forged giant who blankets the land in snow; the Tauren's traditions of spiritual renewal and gratitude to the Earthmother; and the modern commercialization by the Goblin-run Smokeywood Pastures.
The video also highlights the infamous Metzen the Reindeer, named after former Warcraft creative director Chris Metzen. This unfortunate reindeer boasts a colourful history of kidnappings, from pirates and Dark Iron dwarves in Classic WoW to the Grinch in the current iteration. The video concludes with a humorous nod to this, with Metzen thanking viewers in Thrall's voice (fittingly, as Metzen voiced the Orc Shaman).
This collaboration continues a successful partnership between Blizzard and PlatinumWoW, who has previously created lore videos covering topics such as Nerubians, Vrykul, and the Scourge. Blizzard’s recent collaborations with various content creators, including Taliesin & Evitel and Hurricane, demonstrate a commitment to enriching the player experience.
Players can still partake in the festivities until January 5th, 2024. This year’s highlights include a tamable Dreaming Festive Reindeer for Hunters, new holiday transmogs, and the Grunch pet. Don't forget to check under the tree in Orgrimmar or Stormwind for a special gift! Last year's surprise was the Junior Timekeeper's Racing Belt toy – what awaits this year?
