Warner Bros. Announces The Shutdown Of Mortal Kombat: Onslaught Just One Year After Its Launch

Warner Bros. Games is shutting down its mobile game, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, less than a year after its launch. The game was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store on July 22nd, 2024. In-app purchases will be disabled on August 23rd, 2024, with servers officially shutting down on October 21st, 2024.

The reasons for the closure remain undisclosed, although it follows NetherRealm's recent closure of its mobile games division, which also handled Mortal Kombat Mobile and Injustice. This suggests a potential shift in the company's mobile gaming strategy.

Refunds for In-Game Purchases:

Players who made in-game purchases are awaiting clarification regarding refunds for in-game currency and items. NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. have promised further information soon, advising players to monitor their official X (formerly Twitter) account for updates.

Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, released in October 2023 to commemorate the franchise's 30th anniversary, offered a unique take on the Mortal Kombat universe. Unlike previous installments, it blended action-adventure RPG elements with a cinematic storyline, reminiscent of free-to-play mobile MOBAs. The game centered on thwarting the Elder God Shinnok's power grab, with players assisting Raiden and their team.
