"Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller Upgrade Hinted in FCC Filing"

Author : Audrey May 01,2025

With just under 24 hours until the much-anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, excitement is building as Nintendo prepares to unveil its plans for the next generation of its iconic console. A recent filing with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has sparked intrigue and speculation among fans, particularly regarding the potential controller lineup for the Switch 2.

On March 31, an FCC filing emerged under the product code "BEE-008," hinting at a new game controller from Nintendo. Enthusiasts and industry watchers, as noted on platforms like Famiboards and GoNintendo, speculate that this could be the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller. While Nintendo has not officially confirmed this, certain features listed in the filing, such as Bluetooth and NFC capabilities, lend credence to the theory that this might indeed be a Pro Controller.

A key highlight from the filing is the potential inclusion of a headphone jack in the Switch 2 Pro Controller. Unlike its predecessor, the original Switch Pro Controller, which lacked this feature, the addition of a headphone jack would align the Switch 2's controller with competitors like the DualSense and Xbox Series controllers, enhancing user experience with a valuable quality-of-life improvement.

Historically, Nintendo's FCC filings have offered glimpses into the company's upcoming plans, adding some weight to the speculation around this controller. However, without official confirmation, we'll need to wait for the Switch 2 Direct to see if these rumors hold true.

The Switch 2 Direct is scheduled to air tomorrow at 6am PT / 9am ET on Nintendo's official channels. This event promises a "closer look" at the Switch 2 following its initial reveal earlier this year, and fans are eager for detailed information, including a potential release date.

Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 Direct will last for an hour. Additionally, two Nintendo Treehouse: Live | Nintendo Switch 2 presentations featuring hands-on gameplay are set for April 3 and April 4, starting at 7am PT each day. These sessions will provide further insights into what gamers can expect from the new console.
