The stress test for what may be the final major update to *Baldur's Gate III*—Patch 8—is now live. Earlier this week, select Sony console players received early access to the patch. However, for those who prefer not to participate in testing, the developers advise reinstalling the game to ensure a clean experience moving forward.
Key Features of Patch 8
One of the most significant additions in Patch 8 is the introduction of crossplay functionality, enabling seamless multiplayer sessions between PC and console players. As long as all participants have their Larian accounts linked, players can now invite friends across platforms to join their adventures.
Mod support in cross-platform play has also been addressed, albeit with some limitations. For modded games to work across platforms, all mods used by the PC player must also be available on Mac and consoles. Additionally, the host’s lobby should not have more than a two-digit number of mods installed to maintain compatibility.
Split-Screen Co-op Arrives on Xbox Series S
A highly anticipated feature—split-screen co-op—is now being tested on the Xbox Series S. Previously unavailable on this console due to hardware constraints, this update brings parity to all Xbox players and enhances local multiplayer accessibility.
Additional Enhancements in Patch 8
Beyond multiplayer improvements, Patch 8 introduces a robust photo mode featuring extensive customization tools, allowing players to capture cinematic moments from their epic campaigns. The update also adds 12 new subclasses, significantly expanding character build options and gameplay diversity.
Larian Studios has also dedicated efforts to bug fixes and balance adjustments. While many issues have been resolved, some remain under investigation. A full list of changes and known issues for the current stress test is available directly on the game’s official page.
