How to Start the Hermit Quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2

The Hermit quest becomes available automatically as you finish quests for Radovan the blacksmith in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Upon locating the lost cart, report back to Radovan. He will then inform you of his plan to forge a sword as a wedding present.

This initiates the Hermit questline, but before you can approach the hermit, you must first speak with the villagers in Troskowitz.

Get Information About the Hermit

First, go to the tavern in Troskowitz and speak with Innkeeper Betty, exploring all dialogue options. Afterwards, gather more details by speaking with other villagers. During my playthrough, I spoke with the alehouse maid and the general trader.

Talk to Gerda and Stanislav

Your next objective is to speak with Gerda in Troskowitz, as she actually observed the apparition. You can either offer her a small sum of Groschen or attempt a persuasion check to obtain the necessary information.

Next, travel towards Apollonia and speak with Stanislav. You will also need to pass a dialogue check with him or simply pay him a bit of Groschen.

Gather Evidence

With all the information gathered, it's time to collect concrete evidence. First, go to the cross that Gerda mentioned and excavate the grave to find some Groschen, along with several documents and artifacts related to the Knights of the Cross. Note that you will need a spade to dig it up, which you can buy from the general trader in Troskowitz. Alternatively, you might find a free spade by searching cemeteries near settlements.

Read the documents, then proceed to the quest marker in Apollonia to discover a hut and a clearing with a black horse. Inspect the horse for your next clue, and you will then be prepared to confront the hermit.

Talk to the Hermit

Go to the hermit’s hut and speak with him. Be aware that if you haven’t gathered any evidence, the hermit will refuse to talk. However, now that you have all the necessary proof, he should be more cooperative.

Select the following dialogue options when speaking with him:

“You’re suspicious.” Explore all dialogue options regarding the clues and evidence. “Out with it!”

The hermit will then confess that he is not actually Ambrose and reveal his real name is Konrad. Before surrendering the sword, however, Konrad instructs you to speak with a widow named Margaret and give her a cross.

Travel to the cemetery near Apollonia to speak with Margaret and hand over the cross. This begins the Sinful Soul quest, which you can complete immediately by helping her dig a grave for Ambrose. This step is optional, and you can choose to return to Konrad right away if you prefer.

Help Konrad or Kill Him

As you approach the hermit's hut again, you will find several Crusaders gathered nearby. Speak with them, and you will then have the choice to either help the Crusaders kill Konrad or assist Konrad in escaping.

Sneak towards the hermit's hut, and Konrad will agree to speak with you. Inform him you have completed the task and ask where the sword is. At this juncture, you can either aid Konrad or kill him. I chose to kill Konrad, as confronting the Crusaders is quite difficult, and fighting Konrad is much simpler, especially with Mutt and the Crusaders on your side.

After defeating him, speak with the Crusaders and offer to return the documents in exchange for a small payment of Groschen.

Get the Hermit’s Sword

Finally, head north of the hermit's hut to locate two tangled oak trees, where you will find the hermit's sword embedded in the ground. Retrieve it, then return to Radovan in Tachov to finish the quest.

And that’s how you can obtain the hermit's sword and complete the Hermit quest in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. For more tips and game information, including the best perks to acquire first and all romance options, be sure to explore The Escapist.
