Bot Boosting Crackdown: Diablo 4, PoE2 Stance Unclear

Elon Musk's alleged cheating in Diablo 4 and Path of Exile 2 has sparked controversy, with fans questioning the integrity of the games and the developers' response. Screenshots of a private conversation revealed Musk's admission to paying for account boosting, a violation of both games' terms of service.

Account boosting, where a player pays another to level up their account, is a clear breach of rules. Blizzard's EULA explicitly prohibits this practice. Despite this, and following public outcry, both Blizzard and Grinding Gear Games have remained silent on whether they will ban Musk's accounts.

Players have expressed significant disappointment, arguing that Musk's wealth shouldn't grant him immunity from the rules. Forums are filled with discussions about the fairness of the game and the lack of developer response. One Path of Exile player questioned the credibility of real money trading (RMT) enforcement in light of this incident. Similar concerns are echoed on Battle.net, with players demanding action against Musk for his admitted rule-breaking.

Both Blizzard and Grinding Gear Games have declined to comment on individual player actions or enforcement, fueling further frustration among the gaming community.

Musk's previous boasts about his gaming skills, including a claim to be a top-20 Diablo 4 player, have been called into question. His performance in a Path of Exile 2 livestream raised concerns about his actual skill level, leading to speculation about account boosting. A video surfaced showing a direct message exchange where Musk admitted to boosting, claiming it was necessary to compete with Asian players. He also clarified that while his streamed gameplay was genuine, his high-level character achievements were not solely his own.

Following the revelations, Musk's ex-partner, Grimes, defended him, claiming to have witnessed his gaming achievements firsthand. However, further accusations emerged suggesting his Path of Exile 2 character was active while Musk was in Washington for Trump's inauguration. The situation continues to generate debate about fairness, accountability, and the impact of wealth on online gaming.
