Capcom has cleverly teased the highly anticipated Resident Evil 9 within a celebratory video marking a remarkable milestone of 10 million players for Resident Evil 4. Released on April 25, the video features Ada Wong in a hushed conversation with a notorious villain, transitioning to Leon surrounded by an infected crowd wearing party hats, heading towards a church.
The scene then shifts to a rock-themed sequence where Dr. Salvador amusingly strums a chainsaw as if it were a guitar. Amidst the revelry, Leon is seen fist-pumping in front of a rustic sign that reads "Thank you for playing." However, eagle-eyed fans noticed something intriguing when the sign is turned on its side: the boards form the Roman numeral "IX," signifying the number 9.
While some might argue it's a mere coincidence, horror game leaker Dusk Golem points out that the lower plank on the sign, which forms part of the numeral, is absent in earlier parts of the video, suggesting it was intentionally added. This subtle hint has sparked excitement and speculation among fans. One surprised viewer said, "I know what you did here," accompanied by a wide-eyed emoji.
Adding to the anticipation, Capcom has confirmed that the next mainline entry in the Resident Evil series, Resident Evil 9, will be directed by Koshi Nakanishi, the director of Resident Evil 7. Nakanishi said at the time, "It was really difficult to figure out what to do after [Resident Evil 7], but I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can." Rumors suggest, though not confirmed, that the game may be set on an island inspired by Singapore.
