Firaxis Games has announced that the first in-game event for Civilization 7, originally scheduled for Update 1.1.0, will be postponed to allow more time for critical quality-of-life improvements. In a development update shared on February 28, 2025, the team outlined a new roadmap, confirming that player experience enhancements now take precedence.

Update 1.1.0 is still slated for release on March 4, 2025, across PC and console platforms, with a staggered rollout for Nintendo Switch. While the in-game event—dubbed Natural Wonder Battle—has been delayed, Firaxis emphasized that the decision was made to ensure a smoother, more enjoyable gameplay experience. The studio stated, "Although our first in-game Event*, Natural Wonder Battle, was originally planned for Update 1.1.0 on March 4, events are now being postponed to a later update to allow us more time to prioritize quality-of-life improvements for players worldwide. We’ll share more details about the first in-game event once we’re ready."

Since the game's early access launch, community feedback has highlighted several pain points, particularly concerning the user interface. Acknowledging this, Firaxis previously confirmed, "We are aware of and looking into feedback on the game's UI," adding, "We're continuing to make improvements to Civilization 7, and appreciate you taking the time to drop your feedback."

The upcoming Update 1.1.0 will directly address top player concerns, with a strong focus on usability and gameplay balance. While full patch notes will be released at launch, Firaxis has previewed the major additions and changes.

A new natural wonder, the Bermuda Triangle, will be added to the map and available for discovery at no cost. The update also includes significant UI refinements, a highly requested improvement aimed at streamlining navigation and interaction. Additionally, the Modern Age’s Cultural Legacy Path will undergo major adjustments, and AI leaders will demonstrate improved performance when pursuing a Cultural Victory.

Alongside these changes, the first half of the paid Crossroads of the World Collection will become available. Players who own the relevant editions or have purchased the collection separately will receive the content automatically upon installing Update 1.1.0.

Next Major Update Targeted for March 25, 2025

Firaxis plans to release the next major update on March 25, 2025, though this date remains subject to change. This update will continue the push for UI optimization, with the team stating, "Ongoing improvements to the User Interface continues to be a top priority for the development team. The updates being introduced on March 25 are just one part of a much larger plan that aims to improve the UI over the next several months."

Looking beyond March, the development roadmap includes highly anticipated features such as the "one more turn" option, allowing players to continue past the Modern Age conclusion, auto-explore functionality, expanded map sizes for PC and consoles (excluding Switch), and enhanced multiplayer support.

Firaxis shared, "We’re in the process of scoping the work necessary to bring these priorities to the game as soon as we can. Some of these will be delivered as early as April (subject to change), though many will take longer to develop, test, and deploy. As always in development, plans can change and we'll have more details to share here in the weeks and months ahead as plans solidify. We appreciate your continued patience in the meantime!"
